A good article here:

I think I like the ideas from some of the gals in my CQ for Newbies group who suggest taking just a few hours on each project, then moving on to the next. Then again, like one gal said, "I'm afraid to count my UFOs - I think they're breeding!!!"

Happy Valentine's Day!
Well, I'm officially another year older ~ not sure if I'm another year wiser or not. LOL! Had my birthday yesterday and Vance made me a special dinner. Red Robin used to have these great chicken quesadillas; we went there just for that. Well, management changed and so did the recipe. So, Vance has figured out a way to make one just as good, if not better! So, I put n a request for that for my birthday and I got it! Yummy!!! Crispy on the outside, chicken, cheese, bacon and black olives on the inside. Delicious!
And he got me these fantastic boots from Land's End that I had asked for! I've been needing some good snow boots for a while now, they are so warm! I got to try them out this morning as I drove to work in 8-degree weather. Yes, it's a lovely day here in sunny, snowy Colorado! Ryan got me a great Phillips, Craig and Dean CD that I just love! So it was a wonderful day! I got a bunch of Happy Birthday e-wishes from lots of cyberfriends and family all day long. It was great! Thanks so much to all of you who made it such a great day! (Except for mom who said she's sending me a 'funny' card next year! grrrrrr...just kidding)
Let's see, the last update was New Year's Day. Well, Vance is still having a hard time with his back muscles. He has no more pain down his leg, Praise God! But he is still having some pain at the surgical site and a lot of stiff, achy, cramping muscles to contend with. He's up and about doing more than he was before surgery, but still having pain, so it's kind of a bummer. And with this Arctic weather we've been having (Yes Virginia, apparently there is winter in Denver), he's not been able to get out and walk like he would have liked to.
Ryan has recuperated very well from his tonsillectomy. No more snoring- woohoo! He is still having problems with his allergies though. We finally finished his testing and he is allergic to all the trees, grasses and weeds they tested him for, plus cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, etc, etc. The list of what he's not allergic to is shorter and easier to remember - horses, hogs, cows, guinea pigs and parakeets. He can't even have down pillows, comforters, coats, etc. So, we ordered the serum for his allergy shots and he should start by the end of the month. The trees start pollinating out here tomorrow - Yikes!
He's enjoying his 4H and youth group activities.
His birthday fell on the same day as the middle school all-nighter at church. But that's a whole 'nuther blog! :)
In 4H, he has started both is dog training classes with Harley and his shooting sports practices. Shooting sports is on Tuesday nights and dog classes are on Wednesday nights, so we keep pretty busy.

Harley will participate in the county fair dog show in obedience and showmanship, as far as we know now. So far, he's doing fantastic! He just hates to sit his bare little bottom or lay his bare little belly on the cold concrete floor at classes - and who can blame him? :)
In shooting sports, Ryan is doing air rifle again this year, but he has also been loaned the use of a friend's air pistol and he will be checking out a .22 rifle from the program and using it also. So he will have at least 3 shooting sports events to do.

He and Vance have been having fun building electronic gadgets for his electronics project and I take him out to the state park and national wildlife preserve for his forestry, wildlife and outdoor adventure projects.
He's enrolled in a lot of projects this year, for several reasons. One, we have more time with the hours I'm working and him being homeschooled. Two, he had a lot of unfinished projects and it is a goal this year to complete them. And three, there are some new things that he wanted to try and some that I felt he should be doing at this age. Well, I guess that's enough for now. More later.......

Ryan's 13th Birthday aka The All Night Party!!!
It was great! I went as a chaperone. They all sang a special song to Ryan for his birthday. It's a middle school yoth group tradition. It's a birthday dirge.
The kids had pizza for dinner, then we went to Laser Quest. When we came back we played a game of Live Clue where the youth pastor got murdered and all us leaders played different parts. The kids got divided into teams and had to solve the murder. Ryan's team won and they each got $5. We cut and shared his birthday cake (a full sheet!), had snacks, then moved into 3.5 hours of "free" time.
There was a movie in the sanctuary, sports in the gym, or video games in the fellowship hall. Yes, Ryan was playing video games.
He said afterwards that it didn't seem like 3.5 hours. Last year at the all nighter, a lot of the kids fell asleep. This year, we had it so jam packed with activities that out of 90 kids, less than 10 fell asleep and only 4 did so purposely, in the sleep rooms. Ryan was not one of them. :)
The next day, while Ryan and I slept, Vance went to the sporting goods store and bought us an inner tube type sled. Ryan and I had gone sledding on New Year's Day and discovered that what works well for a young child doesn't work so well for an adult (can you say bruised tailbone? OW!)

And away we went to check out the sled hill by the house!
I took some pics of Ry, Vance tried to get some pics of me and I of course took some pics of the scenery. ;)

4H
Ryan does electronics/electricity project stuff with Vance. Vance loves teacing him this stuff, since he's loved it since he was a little kid and it's been his career field for so long. And Ryan loves that he can make something that works, turns on and lights up from a "paper clip and chewing gum." Haha!

I take Ryan and Harley to dog training classes on Wed. nights. At the last major turn before the fairgrounds, Harley knows where we are going and starts going nuts. He loves it! Well, he loves seeing the people and the dogs. He also loves the chicken jerky treats he only gets during training! ;) But he hates the cold concerte floor! He balances on his tail most of the time instead of completely sitting down. It's pretty hilarious!
Ryan is enrolled in several outdoor/wildlife projects so we go to several places for these types of activities. Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in the middle of Denver, has a lot of really great free programs, that's where we were at this day.
Ryan was "helping" the cattails spread their seeds.
We had been to a photography program and were walking around the lake afterwards.
He took some really good pictures that day. . . . .

The outdoor/wildlife projects he's in are:
Wildlife: Small Game
Outdoor Adventures: Camping
Outdoor Cooking and Living
Forestry
This one I call "Ryan's harem"
but don't tell him I said that, lol!

We also go to Barr Lake State Park in Brighton, where we are volunteers. They have a lot of great free programs too!
His other 4H projects are ~
Photography (almost done)
Dogs (Wed nights, then show on Aug)
Electronics/Electricity
Shooting Sports: Air Rifle, Air Pistol, .22 Rifle (Tue nights then competition in July)
Consumer Savvy
Financial Champions
Fooods & Nutrition: Cookies
Heritage Arts: Needlework
Ceramics (if our ceramics leader can ever get through the snow to her shed before he goes to KS for the summer!!!)
Bicycle (done)
Leadership
More to come...........
