Relay for Life 2025

 

I am walking in the Relay for Life of Pueblo on September 6, from 430 – 930 pm. Just a reminder if you haven’t already done so, please send me the names of your loved one’s who have or are fighting cancer. At the Relay for Life in will walk a lap in honor of them. So far, I have 36 people so 36 laps.

Please donate to the American Cancer Society in support of my walk!! 

Jan 5th Update

 

From Jan 5th – belated post:

I just realized I’ve not written up an update since I had my last chemo a week ago. I’ve been fatigued, as usual and running a fever with diarrhea today. The fever is being controlled and I think I finally got a grip on the diarrhea too. Tomorrow we have a birthday party for our soon to be 10 year old granddaughter. Nothing else planned for the rest of the weekend. Thanks for your support!!

Chemo Day 1 Done!!

I was up all night due to the steroids they give you to help manage symptoms. So I got all my snacks and lunch prepared and got out my dad’s old cooler to take my cryotherapy mitts and booties into. So my dad who passed of cancer in 2004 was with me in spirit.

The cryotherapy helps to keep the chemo from getting into your hands and feet by constricting the blood vessels. That in turn helps prevent peripheral neuropathy.

I got to the center and got hooked up to my port for the pre-medications. I had a cozy jacket especially for chemotherapy with zippers for ports and all but I wasn’t cold so I didn’t need to zip up. This was a gift from a dear friend.

While the pre-meds were infusing, I had to put on the cryotherapy mitts and booties. they are to be on for 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the Docetaxel plus the 60 minutes of the Docetaxel infusion. Not gonna lie, it was brutal to wear those for that entire time. My hands were hurting bad, the feet not as bad. Luckily I had to take a bathroom break and had to take them off for that and that gave me just enough break to get through the full 90 minutes.

During the cryotherapy I was able to cover up with my fuzzy blanket. Oh, I forgot to tell you, all during the cryotherapy, I was also being fed ice chips by my sweet hubby, to reduce the chance of getting mouth ulcers.

After the cryotherapy was done, I put on these great fuzzy socks that my mom got for me.

They felt sooo good!!! Here’s closer picture of them, they’re great!!

Meanwhile my son decided to join in solidarity with me (how I will likely be in a few weeks)

All in all it went very well. I didn’t have any side effects and was even able to run some errands today and go thrifting. Praise God!! I am praying that this symptom free time will continue or at least return by Monday so I can go to work. Thanks for all your support!!!

From time to time, I (Sheri’s mom) will post something. Today is one of those days. Sheri is getting her first chemo infusion. While her son, Ryan, couldn’t be there, he posted this photo on Facebook showing his support for his mom.

My husband and I are wearing our pink ribbon wrist bands to show our support.

I hope to be with Sheri in Colorado for her surgery and initial recovery. I know she has a wonderful support group between her husband and local friends. Please keep her in your thoughts and remember to help in any way you can.

Labor Day weekend surprise visit

My son Ryan decided to surprise me with a visit form Kansas this past weekend. He showed up on the front porch Saturday morning. He said he had an appointment in Denver to get to so we chatted for a while and he headed out, letting me know he’d have all day Sunday to hang out with us. We had grocery shopping to do and other errands on Saturday anyways. Sunday morning he met us at church, then we went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch. We hung out at the house for a while (everyone napped) and then went to the Labor Day Lift Off Balloon Glow that night. Before we headed out, he showed me what his appointment in Denver had been for. He had gotten his first tattoo in honor of me!! I was so touched!!

Sunday Kenn and I went to Manitou Cliff Dwellings. Neither of us had been there yet, even after living here for 10+ years and 30+ years (me and him). Here’s a few pics form there ~

All in all, it was a great weekend!! Yes, that is Kenn there at the Cliff Dwellings. LOL.

I will post more after I see the surgical oncologist this Friday.

I have a few ideas, projects, etc. underway that I have been planning to post for several weeks. Hopefully this weekend I will get them up and 'everyone' can get a glimpse of what's been going on 'round here. {grin}

First Snow

Well, we are getting our first real snow of the season. Here is the scene outside the youth office:

The only people here, from left to right by vehicle are Rob, Chris, myself, and Matt. Why we are here, I don't really know... ;)

Oh, wait - I think I see someone else's car over there to the right. Probably the poor facilities guy who is trying to plow the parking lot.

Season's change, so do lives. Our lives have gone through quite an overhaul the last few years. The separation from Vance in Feb/Mar 2008 - divorce final Sep 2008. Becoming a single parent family. Ryan entering public school - and high school all at once. Me going back to work full time in retail, then leaving that in Jan 2009 to return to The Keene family as their nanny. Summer 2009 brought me back to part time nanny. And by Aug 2009 I was back in school finishing my last two semesters towards my Bachelors degree.

Wow!! Exciting, crazy, hectic and yes, stressful! We moved from the mobile home into a townhome about 6 miles away. It's nice, but I still don;t have everything unpacked and it's been over a year since we moved! I started working full time just two weeks after moving, so it's not been a real high priority... ;)

The Veteran's Administration is paying for my school - tuition, fees, books - the whole deal! It's through their vocational rehabilitation program. Since my epilepsy has gotten to the point where, ethically, I cannot be responsible for someone else's life (nursing, childcare), I qualified to be re-trained in something I can do that will not be affected by my disability (my epilepsy). I also just found out that I have enough eligibility time that they will send me to school for my Master's Degree, as long as I enroll in a program that completes in 1-2 years!! So, next Aug/Sep, I will be going to school for my Master's in Social Work! Simply Amazing!!

Ryan is having a bit of a hard time in school. We are going to go back to homeschool with extra curricular activities at his current high school. I'm enrolling him today in a private school that is run through the Christian Home Educators of Colorado. Then we just need to get some curriculum and get him going.....

Meanwhile back at the farm.... God has blessed me, us, with an amazing man! Kenn Waddell, from Colorado Springs. We met through a Christian online dating site. We are very similar in personality, likes/dislikes (except he doesn't like black olives, so sad! lol), theological beliefs, values, character traits and communication styles. He is very easygoing, he listens without judging, he believes all people have intrinsic value and worth. He feels that you earn respect, you do not demand it. He is loving and kind, funny and talented. I can talk to him about anything, and I do!

We have plans to go to Atlanta for Thanksgiving where he will meet my parents and siblings as well as my aunt and uncle who are Ryan's godparents. Than at Christmastime, we will travel to Cleveland, where Ryan and I will meet his father and siblings. We will also travel from there to Cincinnati to see my brother's family again and on to NH for him to meet my paternal family most of whom I have not seen in 17 years! I am soooo excited to go to NH!!!

Well, I guess this is a pretty good update for now. I will try to keep this more updated than I have been, but I make no promises. I am very active on Facebook. You can catch me there..... ;)

LIFE ~ Love in full expression

Well, my time as a nanny has almost come to a close. So, I decided to start a new blog. One that is more about my life in general, and not just one part of it. Nannyventure had become a place to keep everyone up to date on the family, but I didn't like the title, url or the description for that purpose and couldn't figure out how to change it.

So I tried to figure out how to encompass all that my life includes into a title - God, family, homeschool, 4H, volunteering with kids, midle school youthand animals, photography, crafts - what do I care the most about? What I came up with was this~ helping ~ people and animals. I love to help, always have.

My favorite verse in the Bible is Galatians 6:9 ~

Let us not become weary in doing good,

for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

For as much asI love to help others, I do sometimes get worn out, tired and discouraged. But this verse gives me hope. I truly believe that we are blessed in order to pass that on - blessed to be a blessing. Another great verse that I really love is in Hebrews and it talks about helping others ~
Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. ~Hebrews 13:2


I will move all my old posts over here, with the same dates (if posssible) so they will be in the archives, then I will delete the nannyventure blog. But I will send out reminders and such to everyone first. :)
